Dr. Frits van Griensven is the Associate Director for Science of the HIV/AIDS Collaboration, a joint activity of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand (MOPH) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He joined the Collaboration in 1998. Dr. van Griensven started his career in HIV/AIDS research in 1983, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and was a visiting scientist at the Survey Research Center of the University of California at Berkeley and at the City of San Francisco Department of Public Health during 1991-1992. He has published over 150 articles on HIV/AIDS in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Prior to joining the Collaboration he was an endowed professor of AIDS Epidemiology at Utrecht University, and a consultant for the AIDS Program of the European Union in South East Asia. Currently he is also an adjunct professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. van Griensven has a Masters Degree in Social Research Methods and Sociological Theory from the University of Nymegen, a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Amsterdam, and a Masters Degree in Public Health (Epidemiology) from the University of California, Berkeley.
